I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and moved to Southern California in the early 1980s to attend medical school. Being a physician runs in my family: My grandfather was a general practitioner, my mother was a pediatrician and my father was a Ob/Gyn. I came to medicine a little late - I was a high school teacher for a few years. I decided to become a physician when I realized I wanted a more challenging occupation - and I got it! I'm grateful for (and occasionally challenged by) my large, loving, supportive family. For fun, I enjoy bicycling, mountain climbing, skiing, and backpacking. I frequently travel to Stockholm, Sweden, to visit family and friends and am fond of most things Scandinavian.
