Dr. Mark Anthony Testaiuti, MD

Board-Certified, spine neurosurgeon Dr. Testaiuti is a board-certified neurosurgeon at coastal spine who specializes exclusively in spine care and complex spinal surgery. His interest in spinal disorders and spine surgery began in medical school at Drexel University/Hahnemann where he participated in spinal cord injury research and received honors in Anatomy and Neurosurgery. After graduating medical school, he began his Neurological Surgery residency training at The Albert Einstein Medical College/ Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. While there, his experience in spinal surgery matured as he spent his senior and chief residency years receiving advanced training with leading New York City orthopedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons in complex spinal surgery. This extensive in-residency training easily amounted to the equivalent (or more) than the standard one year of fellowship training. After residency, Dr. Testaiuti joined the Cooper Health System%u2019s Neurosurgery division at Robert wood Johnson Medical School/UMDNJ and became an assistant professor of Neurosurgery. While there he co-developed and served as the founding co-director of the Cooper-Schriner's Spine Surgery Fellowship program where he helped to fellowship train orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons in spinal surgery. During that time he treated many complex spine trauma patients, published and co-authored articles in peer-reviewed Trauma, Neurosurgery and Spine Journals in addition to extensive practice experience treating patients with tumors of the spine and complex degenerative conditions of the spine. He was subsequently promoted to Chief of the division of Neurosurgery and served as such until his departure into private practice in 2002. Dr. Testaiuti has been on staff at the Virtua health system since 1998. While at Virtua he and his partners were instrumental in the development of the Virtua Marltons Spine Program that assisted in the Virtua health system in becoming one of only a few hospitals nationally to receive JCAHO certification in spine care. Dr. Testaiuti has been asked to appear on local and national television programs discussing spine surgery, spinal cord injury and technological advances in spine care. He has lectured locally and nationally on spinal disorders and to neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons from around the country in spine surgery techniques. He has been recognized with local and regional awards including numerous TOP DOC nominations in South Jersey Magazine and has been listed as one of Americas Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America and The Center for the Study of Services-Consumers Check Book. He is presently involved in ongoing investigations at Coastal Spine that include artificial disk and motion preservation technology, and the use of stem cells for spinal fusion surgery. His memberships include the American medical Association, The Congress of neurological surgeons, The American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the North American spine Society. He certified by the American Board of neurological surgery and is licensed and New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
