Dr. Leon Smith is originally from Ozark, Alabama. He received his B.S. in Biology, magna cum laude, from Birmingham Southern College in 1982. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in 1986. Dr. Smith completed his residency at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center where he did extensive emergency room work and developed the area’s first smoking cessation clinic.
Dr. Smith moved to Valdosta in 1989 where he and Sr. Stewart Williams established Valdosta Family Medicine. Dr. Smith was Chief of Family Medicine Service at South Georgia Medical Center in 1997. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Society for Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Smith is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Georgia Association of Family Practice; the Medical Association of Georgia is Assistant Clinical Professor at both The Medical College of Georgia and Mercer Medical School. Dr. Smith is on staff at Smith Northview Hospital.
Dr. Smith has three children, Sydney, Cameron and Grayson. He is a member of the Valdosta State University Faculty Brass Quintet where he plays the trumpet. He also collects antique trumpets.
