Brief Intro

Dr. Bloch grew up in Houston Texas. In 1991, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Bioengineering from Texas A&M University. He then attended medical school at world-renowned Baylor College of Medicine, home to pioneering heart surgeon Michael E. DeBakey. Following graduation from medical school in 1995 he completed 5 years of General Surgery training also at Baylor. During residency he spent a significant amount of time at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston training in the surgical management of breast and colon cancer. Following general surgery training he stayed on at Baylor and completed a one-year minimally invasive surgery fellowship, focusing on anti-reflux surgery and minimally invasive colon surgery. In 2001 he was Board Certified in General Surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has extensive experience in a wide range of surgical procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract for both benign and malignant diseases. He has performed over 1000 cholecystectomies, 1000 hernia repairs and 400 colon resections, the vast majority being done laparoscopically. He also has extensive experience in the laparoscopic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), paraesophageal hernias and the treatment of the rare obstructive esophageal disorder know as Achalasia. He also has extensive experience in the surgical management of both benign and malignant breast disease.
