Dr. John Lonsdale is a board-certified ophthalmologist and has been in practice in central Maine since 1986. Dr. Lonsdale is a graduate of Bates College and received his medical degee from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a widely-respected ophthalmic surgeon and has been the Chief of Surgery at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center since 1996. Dr. Lonsdale is an experienced cataract surgeon and he performs modern, no-stitch cataract extraction. He has also trained in oculoplastic surgery and is skilled in cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty and Botox injections. Dr. Lonsdale treats complications of eye trauma and performs reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and orbital tissues. Dr. Lonsdale is also very experienced in treating diseases of the cornea and routinely performs corneal transplants. Dr. Lonsdale's surgical practice, he performs routine vision examinations and prescribes contact lenses. He also treats numerous medical disorders of the eye such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Despite Dr. Lonsdale's busy practice, he continues to be involved in ophthalmic drug research and has been a chief investigator in numerous drug studies.
