Dr. Eakins was born and raised near Atkinson, NC. He attended the University of North Carolina and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency program followed by a two-year fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of North Carolina. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. His practice now is limited to Internal Medicine. Dr. Eakins and his wife Shelby have four children, Shannon, Christie, Lisa, and Mitch, and reside in Wilmington.
