Originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa, Dr. Sandy moved to the United States as a teenager. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado Boulder and earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
Her training includes:
- Ophthalmology Residency: University of Alabama at Birmingham/Callahan Eye Hospital, a premier level-1 ocular trauma center with 24/7 emergency eye care.
- Global Ophthalmology Fellowship: University of Oklahoma’s Dean McGee Eye Institute, where she served locally and internationally in Eswatini, China, and Nepal, gaining invaluable insights into diverse healthcare systems and surgical techniques.
- Ophthalmic Plastic, Orbital, and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship: Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Dedication to Service
Dr. Sandy is deeply committed to expanding access to quality eye care worldwide. She leads multiple medical mission trips to Sierra Leone, providing sight-restoring surgeries, life-saving oculoplastic procedures, and training for local medical professionals to build sustainable healthcare systems. Her passion for service has also taken her to India, Fiji, and Southern Africa.
Before joining EDOW, Dr. Sandy was an Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University, where she founded the Global Ophthalmology Program, trained residents, and later served as the only fellowship-trained Oculofacial Plastic specialist in North Dakota.
