I grew up in the small town of Hillsdale, Michigan, a grandson of farmers and a son of teachers. I took from my upbringing good doses of common sense, honesty, and hard work. I inherited some academic gifts, and a love of science and a desire to help people led me to dream about becoming a doctor. The details of my schooling and training are available elsewhere on this page. As I became a doctor, I decided to also become a dermatologist, and I later developed a special interest in skin cancer treatment. Over the course of several years, I have trained and practiced in large and small groups in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States. I also discovered my other important callings while becoming a doctor: being a husband and father. While I am dedicated to my work, I am equally devoted to my wife and our six children. Four of the six are Asian, and the quest to raise our children in a racially diverse region was a motive for moving to California.
