Brief Intro

Orthopedic surgery and sports medicine has been the focus of Dr. Heming's medical career since 1994, when he began his surgical training in Flint, MI. Since that time, he has completed his residency training at Genesys and worked as the Medical Director for the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitative Therapy Clinic at Great Lakes Naval Base. Prior to beginning practice at GFSM, he completed an Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship in Boston, MA where he worked as an assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Harvard University athletic teams. Dr. Heming has a passion for orthopedic education and research. He has been a clinical instructor for three medical schools and enjoys teaching residents and medical students at Genesys. Dr. Heming has been involved in surgical skills teaching since 1997 at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeon's Learning Center and The Arthroscopy Association of North America in Chicago IL. He has several ongoing research interests with-in sports medicine and has published and presented several completed projects on a national level. The continuous advances in arthroscopic surgery and minimally invasive techniques throughout all aspects of orthopedics are a specialty that he strives to utilize in the treatment of his patients at GFSM. He focuses on cartilage restoration and challenging arthroscopic shoulder procedures and he participates in the trauma call schedule at Genesys and enjoys the practice of general orthopedics. Dr. Heming resides in Flint, MI with his wife Dana, daughter Olivia and twins, Lauren and Liam. As a family, they enjoy boating and biking, water sports and snow skiing.
