Dr. Fitzpatrick is a cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Luke’s University Health Network and Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Temple University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
He attended medical school at Temple University School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Joseph C. Doane Memorial Prize as the highest ranked graduate. He subsequently completed prestigious training programs in General Surgery, Basic Science Research, and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn he was honored with the Penn Center of Surgical Excellence and Outstanding Chief Resident awards. Additionally, he was awarded the C. Walton Lillehei Resident Research Award by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Fitzpatrick has expertise in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery and has established a record of clinical excellence that exceeds national standards. He has particular interest in valve repair and replacement, complex aortic surgery, and minimally invasive valve surgery. In addition, with Dr. Fitzpatrick’s leadership and expertise, St. Luke’s has established a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) program for patients with advanced stages of heart failure. The program received disease-specific certification from the Joint Commission in 2014, and has successfully implanted numerous patients with LVADs.
