Dr. Harold S. Bernstein is a pediatric cardiologist with expertise in pediatric heart failure and cardiovascular manifestations of genetic syndromes. Bernstein joined UCSF Children's Hospital in 1997 after postdoctoral training in cellular and molecular biology at UCSF. His research addresses the biology of stem cells and strategies for regenerating damaged heart muscle. He is a member of the UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute and Institute for Regeneration Medicine. His honors include the Richard Rowe Research Award in Perinatal Cardiology from the Society for Pediatric Research, Basil O'Connor Award from the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, Ross Research Award from the Western Society for Pediatric Research and Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association. He is the principal investigator of several research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association and California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He earned an undergraduate degree at Harvard College, doctorate in molecular genetics and medical degree at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
