Gregory Schroder, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon practicing in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Schroder received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, and completed his medical degree and five-year residency at VCU Medical Center's Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.Dr. Schroder pioneered the practice of advanced Laparoscopy and Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery for 20 years at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, before joining HCA Virginia and Advanced Surgical Partners of Virginia. He is active in research related to Bariatric Surgery and has served as Co-Investigator for multiple projects. He is a proctor in the Advancement of Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery. Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Schroder's laparoscopic interests include Gastric Bypass, Adjustable Gastric Banding, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Single-Incision Cholecystectomy, and revision procedures. Dr. Schroder is a Past President for the Virginia Bariatric Society, an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and is past Chair of the State Chapter's Committee. He has served on the Pediatric, Membership, Access to Care, and STAR committees of the ASMBS. He has served on the Executive Council for the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Schroder is consistently voted as one of the region's top bariatric surgeons by a survey of his peers in Richmond Magazine, with either honors or a category win every year since the category has existed (it was added in 2013).
