Dr. Gordon Green
Ever since Dr. Green was in kindergarten, in Terre Haute, Indiana, he knew he wanted to be a dentist. Naturally, he thought everyone else wanted to be a dentist too because he was proceeded by generations of dentists, including his father, uncle and grandfather. His sister followed suit by becoming a dental hygienist. Members of his immediate family are also involved in the field of dentistry: his wife is a hygienist, and his daughter is also a dentist.Â
Dental School and Navy
After Dr. Green graduated from Indiana University Dental School in 1976, he entered the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Cecil Field Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida, as well as the USS Grand Canyon, where he was a dentist on board the ship. Dr. Green trained at Bethesda Naval Hospital and the Walter Reed Army Hospital.
Continuing Education
Dr. Green is an advocate in continuing dental education and has achieved Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry, a prestigious dental organization for general dentists dedicated to continuing their education beyond dental school. To achieve Fellowship status, a dentist must accumulate 500 or more hours of continuing dental education and pass a written comprehensive dental examination.
Dr. Green was a founder of the Southern Indiana Implant Study Club, and is past president of the Greene District Dental Society. He is still active in the American Dental Association and the Indiana Dental Association.
Mission Dentistry
Being active in civic organizations and his church is a high priority for Dr. Green. He also has served on dental mission teams. He has taken dental mission trips to the Ukraine, Mexico, Haiti, Belize, and the Amazon to help provide dentistry to needy populations. He’s been doing mission dentistry in Haiti for the past ten years, and was instrumental in forming a partnership with Adec Dental Supply Company to donate portable dental equipment in this area to upgrade the level of dentistry allowing Dr Green to save more teeth.
A Family Man
Dr. Green moved to Lyons, Indiana, in 1978 to launch his own dental practice because he loves this community and enjoys hunting and fishing. His wife, Janet, is a dental hygienist, who graduated from Indiana University in 1974. She taught in the university's hygiene department for a couple of years and, of course, practiced in this practice for many years. His oldest daughter, Megan, is a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry and is practicing in the Chicago area where she lives with her husband Tim. His youngest daughter, Molly, is a graduate of CAL State, and recieved her masters degree in Speech Pathology. She lives with her husband Daniel in Boise, Idaho. His son, Brooks Andrew, graduated from LeTournau university in Longview, TX and is also pursuing the dental profession. He is currently in dental school at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. Brooks recently got married and is living with his wife Erin in Indianapolis.
