As sole providers in their practice, Dr. Chintalapudi and Dr. Tellez oversee patient care, which is guided by a detailed assessment and comprehensive management plan. As a rule, Sandhills Neurologists patients do not have to endure excessive wait times for appointments. “We ensure patients wait no longer than a week or two before an appointment,†says Dr. Tellez. The physicians have even formatted their schedules to allow for same-day appointments, when necessary.
Patients also benefit from longer appointment times, which often include in–’depth patient education. “We take more time than average with our patients; we realize that patients come from long distances to seek our expertise and have a lot of unanswered questions. We also recognize that patient education is one of the key factors to improving compliance and outcomes,†says Dr. Chintalapudi. Dedication to quick access and personal care is extended to referring physicians, as well. Dr. Chintalapudi and Tellez make themselves accessible for physician consults, offer same–day patient appointments and deliver test results and evaluations within 24 hours (48 hours for sleep studies).
Sandhills Neurology is licensed to provide CPAP and supplies for many of their sleep apnea patients. They are also one of only 2 practices accredited in nerve conduction in North Carolina. They are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Each office offers fully functional, state-of-the-art sleep lab centers, nerve conduction study/electromyography labs and testing facilities. Their first accredited Sandhills Sleep Disorders Center opened in 2009 in the Pinehurst location. Since then, they added sleep centers at their Fuquay-Varina and Sanford offices.
A native of India, Dr. Chintalapudi completed medical school at Kurnool Medical School in Southern India, after which he moved to the United Kingdom and practiced medicine for 4 years. In 1994 he completed a neurology residency at the State University of New York, Stony Brook where he was nominated as "Doctor of the year" by the patients. After becoming a board certified neurologist in 1998, he pursued his interest in sleep medicine and became dually board certified in sleep medicine, initially by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) in 2005 and later by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) in 2007. Since 2000, he has lived in North Carolina. He was the director of the sleep medicine program at Siler City Community College from 2006-2010 and was the director of the sleep medicine program at Sandhills Community College from 2008–2010. In 2005, he became board certified in neuromuscular medicine, vascular neurology and in headache medicine by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties. He joined Sandhills Neurology in 2002 and currently resides in the town of Cary with his wife. He has two daughters which were home-schooled by his wife and now attend college in North Carolina.
Dr. Chintalapudi is one of the few physicians in the state with a board certification in sleep medicine. While board certification in this subspecialty is still rather new, Dr. Chintalapudi has been practicing sleep medicine for more than 27 years.
