Personal Statement The privilege of participating in 5,000 births and 4,500 surgeries has been the primary satisfaction of my career. Caring for the underserved has been particularly rewarding for me. My most significant contribution to my community and my profession was my service with the Perinatal Safety Committee. As the physician leader I volunteered over 1,000 hours in conferences, meetings and running the Noelle simulator. Our team successfully implemented many evidence based practice guidelines and protocols, assured compliance with nationwide standards and performed hundreds of hours of simulator based training. We successfully defined and nurtured a team-centered culture of safety in our institution that resulted in a dramatic improvement in outcomes for our patients and a superior work environment for our co-workers. For my work with the Perinatal Safety Committee and for my personal and professional qualities my 21 peers elected me chairman.
