Dr. Smith, professor of orthopaedics and sports medicine, graduated from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago, did his residency in orthopaedics and rehabilitation at Loyola University Medical Center, also in Illinois, and came to the UW for a fellowship in foot, ankle and amputation surgery. He is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and has developed footwear to prevent diabetic ulcerations and conducted studies on prosthetics (artificial limbs).
