Dr.Patel is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology with added certification of special competency in Nuclear Medicine by the American Board of Radiology. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York and is a member of the Radiological Society of North America and the American College of Radiology.
Following completion of radiology residencies at Brooklyn Hospital and Downstate Medical Center, Dr. Patel completed a fellowship in Nuclear Medicine at New York University Medical Center. She was an attending in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital for eleven years prior to joining the Radiology Department at Staten Island University Hospital in 1990.
Dr. Patel has extensive experience in Diagnostic Radiology and all aspects of Nuclear Medicine imaging and radionuclide therapy, particularly RAI 131 therapy for thyroid carcinoma and hyperthyroidism. She has special interest and experience in Positive Emission Tomography and has been a key participant in the development of the PET program at SIUH.
Dr. Patel has actively participated in the Radiology Residency program at Staten Island University Hospital since its inception in 2004. She has developed a curriculum based program designed to teach residents the basics of general radiology, achievable due to her broad scope of knowledge and experience.
