Dennis R. Niess, M.D., board-certified in Family Medicine, has practiced in Wheeling since 1983 and currently maintains an office with Drs. Leah Jones and Bradley Schmitt. He is a graduate of West Virginia University School of Medicine and did his Family Medicine residency at Wheeling Hospital. Dr. Niess has been Wheeling Hospital's Chief Medical Information Officer since April 2009. He was recently appointed to the West Virginia Health Information Network Physician Advisory Council. Previously, Dr. Niess was the Medical Director for Wheeling Hospital. Dr. Niess served on the Wheeling Hospital Board of Directors from 1992-2004 and on the Medical Staff Executive Committee from 1988-2009. He is a past President of the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians and a Fellow of the AAFP. Dr. Niess is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE). He received his Master of Medical Management degree from the Heinz School of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a member of the Health Information Management Systems Society and serves on the Board of Directors of the WVHIMSS.
