David N. Sundwall, MD, is a Professor of Public Health at the University of Utah - School of Medicine, Division of Public Health, where he has been a faculty member since 1978. He served as Executive Director of the Utah Department of Health and Commissioner of Health for the State of Utah, from 2005 through 2010. He currently serves on numerous government and community boards and advisory groups in his home state, including as the Utah State Coordinator for Health Information Technology [HIT], and is Chair of the State Controlled Substance Advisory Committee. He also serves as Vice Chair of the federal Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission [MACPAC] in Washington D.C.
He received his medical degree from the University of Utah - School of Medicine, and completed residency in the Harvard Family Medicine Program. He is a licensed physician, board certified in Internal Medicine and Family Practice, and volunteers at Health Clinics of Utah one day each week.
