Dr. Ragan is from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Oklahoma, and graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1983. After a Residency in Family Practice, he worked as a solo physician in rural Oklahoma and was awarded the “Rookie Physician of the Year†in 1986.
In 1987, he moved to Atlanta and has been practicing family medicine and Occupational Medicine since; he is board certified in both areas. In 1996 he earned his Masters in Public Health degree, graduating in the top 10% of his class. He has lectured and served as a moderator at state and national conferences in his areas of interest. He moved to Forsyth County in 1996.
While most of his daily practice is acute illness and injury, he believes that Preventive Medicine is the key to good health.
Preventive Medicine includes screening for disease, a healthy lifestyle, as well as a safe workplace conducive to good health. We are all composed of physical, mental, and spiritual aspects. Dr. Ragan believes that in order to stay healthy it is best to address all these areas. While he recognizes the growing importance and acceptance of “herbal medicineâ€, he thinks we should be patient with research into these areas, and will refer patients to reputable texts on this topic.
