Dr. Furukawa received his medical degree in 1970 from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York, and then moved to Seattle to pursue his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Washington and Children's Hospital and Medical Center. After two years service in the Air Force, he did his fellowship in allergy and immunology. He received his board certification in allergy and immunology and joined Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in 1977. At the University of Washington, he is retired Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and at Children’s Hospital, Clinical Head, Division of Allergy. Dr. Furukawa continues to be active in the training of residents and fellows for the University of Washington. He continues into the second decade as medical advisor for the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network. He also serves as a member of the board of ASTHMA, Inc. Dr. Furukawa is an avid fisherman and collects and creates glass paperweights. He also enjoys cooking, boomerangs, wine and playing racquetball.
