Born in New York City, Dr. Duma wanted to be a doctor since age 9, having had his family doctor as a role model. He majored in Neuroscience at Colgate University as an undergrad, and went on to State University of New York for Medical School.
He achieved his number one ranked pick for Neurosurgery Residency, Georgetown University, where he spent 7 years in training. During that residency he did a one-year fellowship in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Dept. of Neurosurgery.
He graduated in 1993 and took a position as Co-Director of the Brain Tumor and Gamma Knife program at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Then was offered and accepted the position of Medical Director of the Gamma Knife program at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, CA in 1997. He was appointed Medical Director of the Brain Tumor Program in 2008, and the Co-director of the Movement Disorder Program in 2005. He has a Volunteer Faculty appointment at University of California, Irvine, Department of Medicine.
He is an avid classical musician and composes and produces music for all keyboards. He is a specialist in music synthesis.
He Founded and acts as president of a 501(c)3 non-profit charity called Foundation for Neuroscience, Stroke and Recovery (www.FNSROC.org) which offers free ancillary care to patients in Orange County, CA.
