I am a Midwest transplant, but consider myself a spiritual native. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those around me, and leave them a lot better for my presence. Medicine fit the bill nicely. Medicine is a lifestyle to me, not just a job. The rewards to date have been beyond monetary measure, thanks to my patients and partners.
