An avid hunter and fisherman, Dr. Charles T. Baker joined UT Internal Medicine Lafollette in 2006. He is a member of the American Medical Association and has special interests mainly in family medicine. Originally from Tazewell, Tenn., Dr. Baker enjoys contributing to the health of the community and the long-term relationships he has with his patients.
"I had planned on becoming a doctor and working in a small town since childhood," he says when asked why he went into primary care. Prior to joining UT Internal Medicine Lafollette, Dr. Baker was the director of the UT Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation facility in Lafollette, Tenn. He also was medical staff at Lakeshore Mental Health Institute and with NOCCR at the University of Tennessee assisting with research studies. Dr. Baker graduated from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 1997 and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 2003. He completed his internship at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 2004 and completed his residency at UT Medical Center in 2006. Dr. Baker was a member with the UTCOM Underserved Areas Program and received a UTCOM Primary Care Scholarship in 2003. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from ETSU and was on the deans list at ETSU from 1993 to 1997. He belonged to the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He also served a clinical externship at Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell in 1999 and 2000. Dr. Baker participated in violence counseling for at-risk adolescents who were incarcerated in the Juvenile Detention Center with the Community Outreach Program in Memphis, Tenn., from 2000 to 2001. Dr. Baker lives with his wife, Patti, and Aiden. He enjoys hunting, fishing and weight lifting.
