Dr. McGwier grew up in Grove Hill, AL and completed high school in Mobile, AL. He earned a bachelors degree in Biology from Birmingham Southern College and attended medical school at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Following graduation from medical school, Dr. McGwier remained at the University of South Alabama Medical Center for his internship in Family Practice, residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Cardiology. Between residency and fellowship he served as Chief Resident at the University Hospital in Mobile, AL. After his Cardiology fellowship, Dr. McGwier moved to Gadsden, AL in 1991 where he has been in private practice. He founded Southern Cardiovascular Asociates, PC in June 1993. Dr. McGwier and his wife Candace have four children. Dr. McGwier is an avid Alabama football fan and loves golf, and spending time at the beach with his family.
