Brief Intro

Brett J. Loechelt, MD, is the director of Clinical Immunology and the William and Shirley Howard Hematopoietic Stem Cell Laboratory at Childrens National. Dr. Loechelt has expertise in transplants for non-malignant disorders with a special concentration in transplants for immunologic and autoimmune disorders. His research interests include cellular manipulation to reduce the risk of graft versus host disease and enrich graft versus tumor effects. Since 2003, Dr. Loechelt has had continuous research support working with the Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, a National Institutes of Health-funded project, to investigate immune-based interventions to treat and prevent type 1 diabetes mellitus in children, adolescents, and young adults.
