Brief Intro

At Appalachian Spring Dermatology, we realize that dermatologic disorders can have a profound impact on every aspect of life. We desire to have a positive impact on our patients and their quality of life. This is why we have chosen our slogan. We treat each patient as we would a member of our own family, by providing the best medical care possible with compassion, respect, honesty and professionalism. You, the patient, are the first priority in everything we do. MEDICAL PROCEDURES We offer a variety of procedures to treat various medical conditions. We perform in office excisional surgery to treat and remove benign skin lesions (moles, cysts, etc.) and malignant skin cancers. We also treat a number of benign skin lesions with cryosurgery (freezing) and electrodessication (burning). In addition to the above common procedures, we offer a number of additional services to treat common medical conditions. We offer photodynamic therapy to treat actinic keratoses ( precancerous lesions) as well as acne and rosacea. This procedure offers great efficacy, a positive cosmetic outcome and minimal down time. For this procedure we use Levulan aminolevulinic acid. This procedure is often covered by insurance, including Medicare, to treat actinic keratoses. We also have two Narrow Band UVB (NBUVB) booths available to treat patients with psoriasis, eczema, mycosis fungoides as well as a number of other conditions. For patients who have involvement in limited areas, we have an Excimer laser, which delivers similar NBUVB light in a laser format. These procedures are often covered by insurance, including Medicare, to treat psoriasis and occasionally vitiligo. To learn more about these light therapies, check out the phototherapy booklet from the National Psoriasis foundation. COSMETIC PROCEDURES We also offer a number of cosmetic procedures to our patients. While this is not often the primary focus of our visits, patients often express interest in enhancing their beauty and slowing down the aging process. We do our best to answer cosmetic questions during a regular visit, but often a cosmetic consultation that focuses on solely addressing cosmetic concerns is helpful. All of our cosmetic procedures are performed by the doctor, not by a nurse or other staff. The cosmetic procedures we perform are generally safe and relatively painless when performed by a trained physician. In most cases we emphasize a healthy skin care regimen, utilizing a retinoid and sunscreen as the best first step prior to recommending any cosmetic procedures. Prior to the procedure we will review your procedure with you in detail, describing the realistic potential outcome and any possible risks involved. To describe our cosmetic procedures and offerings, we as well as others often use the terms… REJUVENATE, RELAX, RESTORE, RENEW, REVITALIZE, REJUVENATE. A more youthful appearance begins with a healthy skin care regimen. We offer a full line of skin care products including Dr Obagi’s new skin care line ZO Skin Health. Using these products, along with a retinoid, will provide the foundation and rejuvenation that many patients desire without the need for addition procedures. RELAX. BOTOX works by relaxing the impulses to facial expression muscles. When the muscles do not contract as much, the skin stays smooth and unwrinkled. Botox is injected into the skin in a simple procedure lasting less than 5 minutes. BOTOX® is safe, fast and simple when quality BOTOX is used and the procedure is performed by a trained and qualified dermatologist. Dr. Rosenberger was trained to administer BOTOX during her residency and received a certificate from her training at a BOTOX®Cosmetic National Education Facility. There are a number of Botulinum Toxins available for use today. Dr Rosenberger primarily uses BOTOX, but also has Xeomin available to use as well.
