Barry R. Smith, M.D., was born in Lindsay. His formal education began at the University of Southern California where he received his bachelor of science in Business Administration. He continued his formal education at the University of California, Irvine Medical School where he received his medical degree. Dr. Smith went on to complete his internship in Internal Medicine at Long Beach VA Medical Center. His residency training was completed at the University of California, Irvine in Ophthalmology. Dr. Smith finished his formal training with a fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Smith returned to the Californias Central Valley in 1985 and began his own practice. After being in practice independently for 11 years, he established Eye Surgical and Medical Associates to better serve the community. Dr. Smith welcomed associates Luke Bianco, M.D., Michael Boone, M.D., Allen Denison, O.D. and Janice Tharp, A.B.O.
Dr. Smith along with Dr. Henry are the only fellowship-trained oculoplasitc surgeons in Tulare and Kings Counties. Their specialty includes eyelid and reconstructive surgery. Included in this specialty is the removal of benign and malignant tumors of the eyelid. Dr. Smith & Dr. Henry also perform cosmetic eyelid surgery of the upper and lower lids, as well as correction of droopy eyelids (ptosis), both upper and lower. Both Dr. Smith Dr. Henry use the latest techniques to remove cataracts & perform glaucoma surgery. They also evaluate children to resolve medical and/or surgical eye problems.
