B. Todd Schaeffer, MD, FACS, a board certified surgeon who specializes in surgery of the nose, face, neck, sinuses and endoscopic skull base, has been performing endoscopic and laser procedures for over twenty years since graduating from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is the Chief and Associate Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology -Communicative Disorders at North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, and holds a dual teaching position as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Hofstra North Shore- LIJ School of Medicine. In these capacities, he has helped train the next generation of facial plastic and endoscopic head and neck surgeons.
Dr. Schaeffer has been at the forefront of minimally invasive procedures in sinus, skull base and facial plastic surgery by utilizing new technology and techniques. He was a principal investigator for an in office balloon endoscopic sinus procedure to drain sinuses, has utilized endoscopic 3D technology for skull base tumors in pediatric and adult patients and utilizes his technique of "Endoscopic Liposhaving" to recontour necks for youthfulness and removal of fatty tumors. These techniques help him with the more common operations he performs for correcting a deviated nasal septum, endoscopic sinus surgery with image guidance and plastic surgery of the nose.
Dr. Schaeffer has also been involved in local and national organizational affairs. Locally, as the past President of the Long Island Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; nationally, as a committee member in legislative, public relations and carrier relations committees for several different Academies.
