After graduating from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, Dr. Portales worked in emergency medicine for 15 years. Eventually, he became interested in chronic conditions, and the importance of lifestyle and nutrition in healing chronic illness. He began to study functional medicine and discovered his true calling is to cure disease and imbalance through multi-disciplinary, integrative medicine. He is passionate about his desire to optimize health with a holistic, individualized approach to each and every patient. Dr. Portales is board-certified by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. He completed the Fellowship in Anti-aging, Regenerative, and Functional Medicine (FAARM) in 2011. Dr. Portales is the recipient of the Vitals Patient’s Choice Award and the Compassionate Doctor Recognition award.
