Dr. Aretha Persaud is board-certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and has been practicing for over 20 years. She chose Family Medicine for the variety of health conditions it allows her to treat, as well as the long-term relationships she can build with her patients and their families. Dr. Persaud emphasizes that it is a privilege to help her patients on their journey to better health. She takes pride in the fact that her patients describe her as being personable, compassionate, and empathetic. Dr. Persaud also has an interest in medical aesthetics, explaining it allows patients to look as good on the outside as they feel on the inside. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Persaud has been an Associate Professor/Clinical Assistant at Zucker School of Medicine since 2018. She previously served as a board member for The Ferro Foundation. Dr. Persaud has one daughter, Alexandra, who is also interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The two started a passion project to bring STEM education to rural communities in Guyana (in South America), where Dr. Persaud was born. She strongly believes in the importance of encouraging young girls to pursue careers in STEM. Together, they have assisted in making this possible by supplying computers, lab equipment, and books to four different schools. In her free time, Dr. Persaud enjoys playing volleyball, traveling, and spending time on the water.
