Dr. Barbish chose medicine because of its unique ability to help and potentially change a patient’s life for the better. He considers gastroenterology, in particular, to be a great combination of analysis and expertise. It allows him to be a problem solver, but one that requires hands on expertise. A perfect blend of patient interaction and procedural time. He believes that those patient interactions make each day different in some way and provide him with an opportunity to learn something new each day.Dr. Barbish enjoys passing on his medical experience to other physicians, medical students and staff. He is grateful for the opportunity to be involved in medical education at the University of Michigan and Indiana University. He believes the many diverse experiences he has had in his life have allowed him to better understand his role as a physician. It is not difficult for Dr. Barbish to identify the biggest influences of his life. He considers his wife, family and faith to be the pillars of his life. These pillars are always there for him, a rock on which the foundation of his life is built. He is active in professional societies and is currently a member of the Patient Care Committee for the American College of Gastroenterology. He enjoys staying physically active through walking, running, biking, golfing, tennis and basketball. As a spectator, he enjoys U of M football And Detroit Tigers baseball. He is a voracious reader and a churchgoer. Dr. Barbish also enjoys traveling to new places with his wife and listening all types of music. My goal is to provide kind, compassionate care. I respect my patients and their concerns as they have come to me to help them with their medical issues. I listen attentively, do a thorough exam, and review previous medical data. Then I develop a plan and carefully explain this course of action to my patients allowing time for questions. I try to help my patients get answers and satisfy their health care needs.
