Dr. Alberto Bessudo graduated with honors from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) School of Medicine in 1989. As part of his graduate training he attended the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine from 1987 to 1989. Dr. Bessudo completed his internship at the Milwaukee Clinical Campus of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, and his residency in Internal Medicine at Washington University, Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to San Diego in 1992, where he completed his subspecialty in Oncology and Hematology at UCSD School of Medicine, and Cancer Center. After graduation he was recruited as a full time faculty member at UCSD Cancer Center, where he was an assistant professor.
He is associate director, experimental oncology of the San Diego Cancer Research Institute (SDCRI). As a dynamic and compassionate clinician, Dr. Bessudo and his colleagues are committed to extend the understanding of cancer, and determined to find better ways of treating, curing and living with cancer. His areas of special interest are tumor immunology, lymphoma and lung cancer.
He iis a recipient of several awards:
- Cure for Lymphoma Foundation Award. July 1997.
- Lymphoma Research Foundation of America Award. June 1995.
- Mendelson Fellowship Award for Cancer Research. University of California, July1993-1994.
- Outstanding Student Teacher Award, 1990-1991, Department of Medicine, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Clinical Campus.
- American Cancer Society, Postdoctoral Grant Award.
Dr. Bessudo was born in Mexico City. He is married and has three children. He speaks three languages: Spanish, English and Hebrew (read, speak and translate).
